Meet Tim Terry
BSc MBBS LRCP FRCS MS Thesis (London) PG Dip Med Ed.
Medic Coach and Mentor, Educationalist, Retired Surgeon, Associate Professor.
I have been a Consultant Urologist in the East Midlands for over 30 years, initially as a generalist, later specialising in reconstructive urology in children and adults, female urology and prosthetic surgery.
I developed a key interest in Mentoring within the Medical fraternity, helping fellow Professionals improve their careers. I am enthusiastic in promoting Reflective Practice to improve Communication, Resilience and identifying Burnout in its early stages particularly in these unprecedented times of change.
I have been mentoring surgical professionals for 11 years and have witnessed the importance of
globally listening to the mentee’s presenting story in a non-judgemental psychological safe space so that clarifying questions may be asked to gain insight into the mentee’s perceptual position. This allows the mentee to consider new future possibilities in a developmental, co-learning educational dialogue with their mentor. After considering potentially adverse consequences of any new behaviour, the mentee encouraged by the mentor, moves on to how they might integrate their new chosen behaviour into their professional role. From this process the mentee takes on a number of tasks to reach their chosen goal.
